We’re stoked to announce that the HSP Roll R Cover Series 3.5 has been named a 2026 Australian Good Design Award Winner in the Engineering Design category. 

At HSP, innovation and engineering are at the heart of what we do. This award is a welcome recognition of the thought, expertise and hard work that goes into designing and engineering our products, and of the people across our team who bring them to life.

Run since 1958, the Australian Good Design Awards are Australia’s longest-running international design awards, recognising excellence in design, innovation and impact. This year’s awards were presented under the theme “Design That Leads”, celebrating the role of design in navigating complexity, driving innovation and creating positive change for the people and planet. 

A Win for Australian Engineering 

The Roll R Cover Series 3.5

We introduced the first fully electric ute roller shutter in Australia back in 2013, and we’ve been refining the product ever since. 13 years on, the Roll R Cover has gone through several generations, and the Series 3.5 is the most refined yet. 

Every Series 3.5 is designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia by a 100% Australian-owned business. Keeping all of it under one roof means the people who design the cover are the same people who build it and hear from the owners who use it, and that feedback goes straight back into the next improvement. 

What the Jury said 

The Jury described the Series 3.5 as “a highly refined and well-executed automotive accessory that demonstrates strong engineering resolution and meaningful practical improvements for utility vehicle owners.”

They were particularly impressed by:

• The compact packaging
• Enhanced user functionality
• Thoughtful integration with existing vehicle ecosystems
• Clear functional and commercial value

They also noted our certified patent innovation and commended the team for “precision engineering and usability enhancements that address the practical needs of end users.” That’s exactly what we set out to do, so it’s the best compliment we could ask for.

What sets the Series 3.5 apart 

• A smaller canister, with your whole tub back. Many roll tops leave part of the curtain sitting exposed when open. The Series 3.5 retracts fully into the canister, so nothing is in your way when you’re loading gear.
• Smart controls, your way. Open and close the cover from the HSP app on iPhone or Android, with Siri voice commands, from the touch sensor built into the side rail, or with your factory vehicle remote. You can stop it in any position, so you’re always in control.
• Horizon LED Light Bar. Exclusive to the Roll R Cover, it’s a full-width light bar that makes loading and unloading easier when the sun goes down.
• Built for Australian conditions. The Series 3.5 has multiple drainage points designed to move water away from your tub, up to 60 litres per minute. While no roll top is completely waterproof, we’ve engineered ours to handle the wet.
• Room to grow. A full-length channel in the side rails lets you add HSP Load Bar crossbars, sports bars or racking systems so the cover works with the way you use your ute.

Every one of these features came from the same question: how do we make this better for the people who use it every day?
