KGM Musso EV Ute: Australia’s First Korean Electric Ute
The KGM Musso EV offers a compelling blend of electric efficiency, modern utility, and lifestyle tuning that could redefine the EV ute segment in Australia.
The KGM Musso EV is set to launch in Australia in late 2025 or early 2026. It will be the first electric pickup from a Korean brand to enter local showrooms, marketed under KGM (formerly SsangYong) and built on the monocoque platform of the Torres EVX SUV.
Performance & Powertrain
- Single-motor FWD: Approximately 152 kW and 339 Nm torque.
- Dual‑motor AWD variant: Up to 304 kW and 636 Nm—ideal for light off-road and towing.
- Battery: 80.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) from BYD, offering around 400 km WLTP range. Supports fast charging up to 200 kW (0‑80 % in ~24 minutes) and V2L power-out capability.
Design & Dimensions
- Integrated unibody chassis, closer in dynamics to SUV than traditional ute—with sharper styling inspired by Torres EVX.
- Payload capacity: Around 500 kg.
- Terrain geometry: Approx. 18.7 cm ground clearance, 19.2° approach, 23° departure, and optional height-adjusting rear suspension on AWD models.

Cabin & Features
- Spacious second row with seats sliding and reclining up to 32°, and 850 mm seat pitch for legroom.
- Dual 12.3″ screens (digital instrument cluster + infotainment), wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, surround-view camera (‘ClearSite’), optional sunroof, leather seats, Alpine audio, and factory-fitted accessories like canopy, roll bar, roof rack, sliding bed and skid plates.
Pricing & Market Position
- In Korea, FWD base models start at ~₩48 million (~A$52,000), with incentives potentially reducing that to ~₩39.6 million (~A$27,000).
- Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed, but expected from A$50–60K before import costs.
- Represents a lifestyle-focussed, eco-friendly alternative to rivals like Ford Ranger Phev, JAC T9, BYD Shark 6, Kia Tasman or Toyota Hilux PHEV—a smaller, passenger-car–based ute offering modern electric mobility.
