HiLux Build: Upgrading Suspension & Front-End Protection

Every great 4WD build is about more than just looks. It’s about creating a vehicle that can handle the demands of everyday driving while being ready to tackle whatever Australia’s toughest tracks throw at it.
As we continue our journey to build Australia’s Ultimate Toyota HiLux, it’s time to take things up another level. In Episode 3, we’re focusing on two major upgrades that will help shape the capability, protection and overall stance of our HSP Vehicle Accessories N90 HiLux: a full Tough Dog suspension setup and an Offroad Animal bullbar.
These upgrades are a big step forward in the build, bringing together improved suspension capability and added front-end protection to help prepare the HiLux for the adventures that lay ahead.
Episode 3: Suspension & Bullbar: Building Capability and Protection
Why Suspension Matters
Suspension is one of the most important upgrades to consider when building a capable touring or off-road vehicle.
It plays a major role in how a 4WD handles changing terrain, manages bumps and uneven surfaces, and carries itself both on and off the road. The right suspension setup can help improve ride control, vehicle handling and ground clearance, depending on the configuration and intended use.
For our HiLux, the goal is to create a setup that works beyond the showroom floor, delivering the capability and practicality needed for Australian touring and off-road adventures.
Introducing Tough Dog Suspension
For this stage of the build, we’re fitting a full Tough Dog suspension setup to the HSP Vehicle Accessories N90 HiLux.
Tough Dog is a well-known name in the Australian 4WD aftermarket, with suspension solutions designed for vehicles that need to do more than simply get from A to B.
As the HiLux continues to evolve, suspension is a key part of bringing the overall package together. It needs to work alongside the wheels, tyres and future accessories to create a balanced vehicle that is ready for the demands of touring and off-road driving.
In this episode, we take a closer look at the upgrade and explore what the new setup brings to the build.
Introducing the Offroad Animal Bullbar
The next major addition is an Offroad Animal bullbar, bringing a tougher front-end appearance and an important layer of protection to the HiLux.
A bullbar is a significant consideration for any touring or off-road build. Beyond changing the look of the vehicle, the right bar can provide a mounting platform for compatible accessories and help protect the front of the vehicle in appropriate applications.
With the Offroad Animal bullbar fitted, the HiLux takes another step towards the purposeful, adventure-ready look we’re chasing.
It’s also an important part of planning the vehicle as a complete package, with front-end accessories, suspension and future upgrades all needing to work together.
The Fitment Process: Bringing It All Together
Choosing quality components is only part of the process. Getting the fitment right is just as important.
In Episode 3, we take you through the installation of the Tough Dog suspension and Offroad Animal bullbar, showing how these upgrades come together on the N90 HiLux.
